What a ride! β˜€οΈ

Sometimes life is a rollercoaster. Recovering from COVID, wild markets, and new opportunities. As one of my favourite bosses ever would say: "What a ride." It really is.  🀝

Let's get into it. πŸš€

Tweet of the Day (TOD)! 🐦

Tim Urban threads hit different. In fact, I saw Tim moderate a panel on AI at NYU in New York City some years ago. Tim is a uniquely good explainer. Combine that with simple visuals and his posts always leave a mark.

He has the best deep-dive on what Elon Musk is up to (really deep) and in the tweet thread above he takes you in to 2022 with some perspective. He's indispensable.

It helps me have perspective when times are hard. We're so good at zooming in to our own minds that we often forget to zoom out. We're just a piece of this giant thing we call life. It's not to be taken for granted, but we can't lose sight of our place either.

Blood in the streets! 🌍

Some of these recent charts are absolutely insane. For the Bitcoin community, these past few weeks have either been an impressive discount or terrifying. Those who have been in the game for a long time poked fun at those who got on the rollercoaster, only to jump off at the first sign of a stress test.

Bitcoin is unique, sure, but there are some other wild charts out there right now.

I teach a course on business model innovation, specifically as it applies to the evolution of digital but we dabble in the analog world as well. I'm going to bring this chart up when I see my students tomorrow night.

What in the almighty hell is happening here? -80%?! I'm no expert, but I'm thinking about this in 1 of 2 ways. Either COVID valuations were insane to begin with so we weren't living in reality and now we're coming back to sea-level, or we drastically exaggerated the culture change that would come from the pandemic

Maybe it's a bit of both? By definition, the COVID bump didn't reflect reality because this is a once-in-a-century event. Many charts are showing the erasure of the COVID pump altogether.

But culture can't be ignored here either. We all had visions of ourselves during and post-pandemic. The activities we would do, the trips we would go on, the way we would work. And much of those things have come to fruition (especially on the work side), but perhaps we exaggerated the move to the home. Perhaps folks were craving each-others company all along and doing the Tour de France in our living rooms just didn't stack up to doing the Saturday circuit with our best mates.

What a time.
